CHEQUAMEGON AREA CHOIR
“Community Voices in Harmony" We welcome you to our musical community. The following is a list of guidelines adopted by our Executive Board to enable our organization to run smoothly and maintain efficiency. It is our hope that our future together will be filled with an abundance of music making and long-lasting memories. May music help you find your inner voice!
- DUES. Dues are collected each semester and are used toward the purchase of music and general maintenance of the choir’s activities. (Current dues: $15/semester; each additional household member: $10)
- MUSIC & FOLDERS. All folders and music are property of CAC! Please be responsible for the care and condition of the music. This is particularly important for 2 reasons: 1) Our music is reused in future concerts; and 2) Some of our music is borrowed from other musical organizations; therefore, we have an obligation to return it quickly and in good condition. Do not 3-hole punch your music. All music must be returned at or before the final concert! Singers will be billed at a standard rate of $30.00 for any unreturned music and concert folders. If for any reason you must quit during the concert season, PLEASE return music folders as soon as possible – somebody else could use it!
- PROFESSIONALISM. Throughout the entire season, we strive to maintain a high-quality, “professional” group. Although both sociability and camaraderie are key elements of the choir, and rehearsals are noted as “painless and penalty free”; any excessive conversations should be avoided. Everyone should have ample opportunity to hear the Director’s instructions. Good fun comes from respect for one another! Additionally, please keep questions, comments, and “opinions” regarding the music until after or outside of rehearsal time; and respect the Director’s choice of concert repertoire.
- ATTENDANCE. Everyone’s attendance is essential for the ensemble’s preparation and performance of the music! Please inform the Director in writing of any known planned absences. If possible, leave the Director a phone, e-mail, or text message for unplanned absences. A maximum of three (3) absences, but not in consecutive weeks, is allowed for each semester. Riser rehearsals are mandatory. (Please see Director in regards to special situations.)
- NOTATION. Please have a pencil in your folder to make notes during rehearsals. You are also encouraged to “highlight” your voice part in the music if you choose. Highlighting should only be done in music copies owned by CAC.
- WATER. Water kept in a closed container or water bottle is allowed during rehearsal. A brief break time is generally offered for refreshment and social time.
- AGE. Age requirements only apply to high school age singers. Minimum age to join is sixteen (16) with preferably a previous knowledge and experience in choral literature.
- ATTIRE. Concert attire will be reviewed each session. It is not required at our Riser “Dress” Rehearsals – only for concerts! Proper concert dress is formal attire. The concert stage is not the place to make a personal fashion statement; it is the place where we come together as a group to perform. We should appear polished and professional. Nothing should be worn that distracts the audience from the enjoyment of the sounds we produce. For that reason, the following dress code has been established. What to wear: (Top) Long sleeve black blouse or collared dress shirt. (Bottom) Floor length black skirt, slacks or dress pants. Black hosiery or socks and closed-toe, black dress shoes. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum and it is requested that performers limit their use of hairspray, perfumes or scents as some members are negatively affected by strong scents. What not to wear: Jeans, leggings/tights, flip flops, sandals, or tennis shoes. No skin should be showing below the waist. CAC will provide performers with accent-colored scarves and neck ties at concert time.
- BORROWING MUSIC. No music may be borrowed during a concert weekend! If you wish to borrow any CAC music, please contact the CAC Librarian or Director at least two (2) weeks in advance of concert time. At approval of loan, a return date will be established by CAC and the borrower. All music loan transactions will be recorded in our board minutes to maintain an accurate account of our music files.
- CANCELLATIONS. In the occurrence of a rehearsal or performance cancellation, a phone/text tree will be activated by the Executive Board. Also, a message will be left on the Director’s answering machine and a mass e-mail/facebook notification will be sent to participating members, as well as an update on our website.
- EXTRAS. There are often many necessary details to hosting a concert that you, as a choir member, may be asked to perform. If all members share these tasks, our concerts will be accomplished successfully, and our time together will be enhanced by your participation. Please remember during concert week to transfer the focus from yourself to the upcoming, anticipating audience!
