“CHORUSPONDENCE” FROM THE DIRECTOR
There is music for everyone! There is great music to fit every ear and preference, every situation in life. Music is a companion in sorrow, an expression for joy, an articulation of the heart when words fail, and a soothing balm to the aching heart. It is vital to our existence and survival. Music is a Gift!
I invite you to receive and open the gift of music by joining us for the 44th Season of Chequamegon Area Choir. Weekly rehearsals begin Monday, September 12, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at the Washburn United Methodist Church. Registration and distribution of music folders begin at 6:30. Share the gift with a singing friend that you bring along!
Speaking of gifts, this year’s Christmas Concerts are entitled “Christmas Presence”. As we sing about our Holiday presents, we must first and foremost celebrate Christ’s presence with us – the one true gift of salvation.
Many song selections for Spring of 2017 will go beyond the notes and rhythms on the page to include lyrics penned by well-known gifted poets in our concerts entitled “Beyond Words”. Prepare to be inspired and entertained.
I invite any and all interested singers to journey with us in maintaining our quality community vocal ensemble this coming year. Any level of musicianship is welcomed. We sing a mixture of sacred and secular favorite standards and new choral releases. Thanks to all who continue to sustain us as financial backers and as supportive audience members.
Music – it’s one of those gifts that keeps on giving…

"CHORUSPONDENCE" FROM THE DIRECTOR
Funny how "question" contains the word "quest" inside it,
As though any small question asked is a journey through briars.
- Catherynne M. Valente, Under in the Mere
The 43rd Season of Chequamegon Area Choir is fast approaching. It has been a summer to remember with CAC participating in both Ashland’s 4th of July and Washburn’s Homecoming Parades! Thanks to the efforts of our Executive Board and interested choir members for taking part in these community activities to get our name out there – hopefully reaching more potential singers in the area to join us!
Weekly rehearsals begin Monday, September 14, 2015, at 7:00 p.m. at the Washburn United Methodist Church. Registration and distribution of music folders begin at 6:30. Bring a singing friend with you!
I begin with a question: “Can a gift given by a loving Heavenly Father over two thousand years ago still matter today?” The answer is a heartfelt ‘yes’! Everything Jesus Christ did was for a brighter future for all God’s children. Our sadness is temporary and love is eternal. With this gift we can enjoy true peace and joy. Last year in my CHORUSPONDENCE, I stated, “We awaken to mystery and miracles.” This year I take that a step further by musically seeking discovery of those Yuletide mysteries and miracles in our December concerts entitled, “The Questions of Christmas”. From “What Child Is This?” to “Do You Hear What I Hear?” we will sing the questions and search for the answers that will lead us on our pilgrimage to the surprises of the manger-Child.
Song selection for Spring of 2016 will include those related to setting out on an expedition and seeking an adventure in an inspiring concert entitled, “Song Quest”.

“CHORUSPONDENCE” FROM THE DIRECTOR
The snow o’er the world is falling, It floats upon the air.
Silent, yet ever restless, As a child’s hands crossed in prayer.
-Excerpt from THE SNOW by Edith Willis Linn Forbes
The 42nd Season of Chequamegon Area Choir is about to commence.
Rehearsals begin Monday, September 8, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. at the Washburn United Methodist Church. Registration and distribution of music folders begin at 6:30.
Each year, as winter takes hold and covers our days with its silent wonder, we take time to reflect. As the shadows grow longer and the nights (and often times, the snowdrifts) deepen, we seek the comfort found in the assurance of God’s grace in the birth of his Son in that stable long ago. Christmas comes sweeping into our fading hope with its jubilant glorias and peaceful carols. The darkened mangers of our hearts are transformed into cradles of light, and we surrender our doubts and fears for the shining joy of star-shine and angel-song. We awaken to mystery and miracles. It is grace… and it is wrapped in a baby named Jesus. This December we will commemorate the beauty of the season with concerts featuring both sacred and secular selections and entitled, “Winter’s Grace”.
This upcoming season of CAC, especially as we hit the year of 2015, sparks much reflection and retrospect, as I celebrate my 20th year as Choir Director! It also inspires me to revitalize my vision of what CAC means to both me and our Chequamegon Bay communities. I am naming our Spring Pops Concerts “20/20 Vision”. Through the lens of music, we will take a glance
back, as well as a look forward to a future bright and clear with song and a sense of caring for our fellow neighbors.
I invite any and all interested singers to take part in our musical ensemble this coming year. Any level of musicianship is welcomed. Thanks to all who continue to support us financially and as participating audience members.
Grace us with your presence!
Musically Yours, Michael Powers

“CHORUSPONDENCE” FROM THE DIRECTOR
What sweeter music can we bring than a joyous carol for
to sing the birth of this our heavenly King?
Awake the voice, awake the string!
-Robert Herrick, 17th century
The 41st Season of Chequamegon Area Choir is about to commence. Rehearsals begin
Monday, September 9, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. at the Washburn United Methodist Church. Registration and distribution of music folders begin at 6:30.
This year’s Christmas Concerts are entitled “What Sweeter Music”. The true meaning of
Christmas shines like a glimmer of hope among the hustle and bustle of shopping, gift wrapping and twinkling lights. How is it that perhaps the most miraculous event in all of history, came to be in a simple manger stall? There was no crowded shopping season. There was however, a crowd in Bethlehem for the census, which forced Mary and Joseph to seek shelter in a stable. Gift wrap could not be found anywhere. But instead, the swaddling cloth used by a young mother wrapped the most precious gift the world has ever known. And those
twinkling lights? They are no comparison to the bright and glorious star that shone in the night sky announcing the birth of a Savior. The Setting was Humble, but the Cast was Divine! This concert embraces the lowly, yet holy nature of our Infant King.
The Bill Staines’tune “All God’s Creatures Got a Place in the Choir” inspires our Spring 2014 performances which are entitled “A Place in the Choir”. We should strive to make each person feel celebrated, needed, nurtured, and loved through a sense of belonging – to find harmony in a world of many voices. This, of course, is not merely limited to a music stage, but to the choir that is… humanity!
I invite any and all in the Chequamegon Bay community to take part in our musical ensemble this coming year. Thanks to all who continue to support us financially and as participating audience members.
Awake and come find YOUR place in the Choir!
